About

Trying to find a balance between all of our passions & what needs to be done is part of what life is all about. I try. I fail. I try again. We all do. This blog is about my personal balancing act.

I'm Jesikah Ann, currently 24 & residing in the outer suburbs of New York City in a tiny 1 bedroom apartment with my boyfriend, son, & our pug.

If you had asked me a few years ago what I'd identified myself as, I would have answered simply with 'art student'. After finding out I was pregnant, I took a break from school, & thus can no longer call myself a student. That's the bad news. The good news is that I am now so much more than that.

I still consider myself an artist, but I now identify myself as a mother as well. I've always had many hobbies & interests, sometimes it feels like I have too many to keep up with! These hobbies include, in no particular order: painting, drawing, photography, crocheting, knitting, sewing, all sorts of DIY, jewelry making, reading, video games, & tons of other stuff really. There isn't enough time in the day to properly enjoy all of these hobbies, which is such a shame because I really can't pick just a few.

I've also come to affectionately refer to myself as a bit of a geek. I love to figure out how things work & why we do things the way we do. Actually, I spend an obscene amount of time trying to figure out why I do what I do & why I feel the way I feel. I also tend to break out into untimely fits of fangirly-ness over numerous science-fiction type movies & shows.

I live with Bipolar disorder, anxiety, a slight case of ADD, & BPD (borderline personality disorder) as a result of being molested from age 6 to age 12. I tend not to talk about it, but it has been known to influence my artwork. It's how I cope.

He likes to keep his privacy, so I'll refer to him as R.

He went to culinary school (specifically for baking), as that is one of his biggest passions in life (if you ever end up in the kitchen with him, watch out). When we first became pregnant after dating for almost a year, he had been out of work for a few months. So, he did the only thing he felt he could do to help support his newly-formed family; he took a job working for my fathers excavating company. It's tough, dirty work out in the extreme heat or the extreme cold, & the pay isn't as good as it should be, but I'm proud of him every single day for doing what he can for both Cyrus & I.

We have our ups & downs, but I honestly couldn't see a life without him in it. It's very clear to me that he loves his son more & more each day.

Cyrus Gaberiel. Our little hellion. He'll be turning 2 in December, but he's already reached those infamous "terrible twos". Despite that, he's one of the sweetest kids you could ever meet (I may be biased). By the charts, he's petite for his age, but that's perfectly fine with us.

He's always full of energy & is quite the typical boy for his age (he takes after his father in that way). Always throwing himself off the couch, playing rough with the dog, & forever playing with rocks & dirt.

He's a picky eater (like most children), but loves most fruits & some vegetables. If we let him, he'd eat cheese & only cheese. His favorite activities include dancing to music, reading, being pushed around in his tricycle or wagon, playing peek-a-boo ("Where go?"), & pretending to drive. He hates bath time & being taken out of his car seat before he's ready (this is a recent development). His laughter & smile are contagious, & the older he gets, the more cheeky he becomes.

Our dogs name is Stormageddon, Dark Lord of All & yes, that is a Doctor Who reference. We, of course, call him Stormy for short. He's a black pug, & is the perfect fit for our little family.

It was my father who planted the seed in our heads to get a family dog as a companion for Cyrus, & I'm very glad we did. Deciding to go with a pug was an easy & quick decision (R's favorite breed), & they're a perfect family dog. No matter how much Cyrus tugs at Stormy & his extra skin (we're working on this), he never gets agressive. He even shares his food with Cyrus (something else we're working on) without so much as a growl.

His favorite activities include: eating, chewing on Cyrus' books, licking every person in sight, eating, chasing his tail, playing fetch, & snuggling in your lap. We have yet to learn of anything he dislikes (other than possibly his tail?), but he was only born in March, so who knows!
